Your First VisitAllow up to 45 minutes for your first visit. The session will begin with a case history, asking detailed questions about your symptoms, and also about your general health, any current medication and your medical history. |

This will be followed by an examination. For most problems it will be necessary for you to undress to your underclothes so that the Osteopath can assess you properly and also for treatment to be effective. Please do not let this be a worry - gowns or shorts are provided, or if you prefer you can bring your own sports clothes to wear. You are welcome to take someone into the consulting room with you if you wish. The Osteopath will assess your whole spine, posture, and the way you move, as often pain in one area can be caused by a problem elsewhere. Osteopaths use conventional medical diagnostic methods, but are also trained to have highly sensitive hands and can often discover problem areas by touch alone. Safety is an important priority - the vast majority of presenting conditions are suitable for osteopathic treatment, but our thorough training in diagnosis ensures we have the skills to know if referral to a medical practioner is necessary. X-rays and scans if needed can be arranged privately or through the NHS. When the examination is complete a full explanation will be given before starting treatment. Please feel free to request either a male or female Osteopath if you have a preference when booking an appointment. |
